what year did 4 ways become standard?

more importantly, what would be the best\least expensive\simplest way to retrofit them to a 63 dart?

I have thought about adding 4 extra lights, but Im not crazy about that idea. is there some aftermarket box that can be patched in?

thanks

tophat

With a hazard flasher retrofit kit that flashes your existing front and rear signals. They are not nearly as common as they once were, but they can still be had. I am fairly sure you can still get a universal installation kit from NAPA; I will check tomorrow and supply the part numbers for you. Or, here's a period retrofit kit on eBay:

No need.

(Or, y'could drive a slant-6 Dart; they never break down, so you don't need flashers! )

For the Tidewater Mopar Club giveaway 1965 Barracuda, I made a simple hazard flasher using SPST illuminated switch (JCW), a hazard flasher, 4 (6A) diodes (RadioShack), and a fuse.

I tapped BAT at the fuse box to an inline fuse to the flasher; from the flasher to the switch; the low side of the switch to the 4 diode's anode (away from the stripe) ends; each diode's cathode (toward the stripe) went to the 4 lines to the 4 lights I tapped into at the steering column connector's dash side.

Years ago I bought a Taiwanese ("avoid undesireable accidents!") 4-way flasher kit from JCW; it used a special illuminated push/pull 4PST switch rather than diodes; it worked fine. I've not seen that kit for years.

If you miss the auction above, NAPA will sell you an Echlin FC6401 4-way flasher kit. Looks suitably olde-tyme for installation in a '63 Dart. You will need to supply the actual flasher can (pick up two Ideal EL12c electronic flashers at your local parts store; NAPA doesn't usually have them) and the indicator bulb. Reason why the kit comes without flasher and bulb is so it can be used on all 6v, 12v and 24v applications.

Thanks much Dan, I will be talking to my napa man in the morning. I might have time to install it this weekend.

KBB, I'll have to try that when I get a chance, but I am a bit to pressed fot time right now.

Thanks again
