We still haven't been able to find a wheel/tire combination to fit down into the spare tire well of Aaron's Dart Sport. We have the fiberboard tire cover and trunk mat, and want them to lie flat. He has 235-60 R15 in back and 205-60 R15 in front. By my calculations, the back is 26.10" tall and the front is 24.69". The spare needs to have close to the same overall height, a thinner profile to fit into the shallow well, and have 5 on 4.5" LBP. Any ideas? Jerry |

The only thing I can think of is a tire sized to fit one of the old VW Beetles. A 195/75-15 would be about right but I don't think anyone makes them. Another possibility is to locate one of the "temporary" spares that were so common a few years ago; there should be a few of those around in late model cars in the boneyards. If you find one out of a Mopar or a Ford you might be set. |

The VW beetle tire would be a 155-80 15 or 165-80 15.......... (My 195/70 14's don't fit in well......) |

David, I would be satisfied with a donut spare, if I could find one. They certainly have the short profile. I just don't have that many places to search for one around here. However, I do know of a place that restores and sells VW's. I'll check them out. Ed, why does your 195/70 R14 not fit? Is it the diameter won't fit in the well, or is it the height is too tall and sticks up? Jerry |

Diameter is fine, it sticks up...........Ed, why does your 195/70 R14 not fit? Is it the diameter won't fit in the well, or is it the height is too tall and sticks up? Jerry I had some styrofoam panels from a shipping box that were about 1" thick, and raised the rest of the floor to compensate. 1" wasn't quite thick enough, but is alot better than nothing. With the trunk mat over everything the floor is close enough to level to work........ |

A 165/80-15 is 25.4" in diameter. That certainly should work.

i grabbed a donut spare out of a cherokee. it sticks up about a 1/4" but other than that it fits pretty well. i think the grand cherokees used a similar tire/wheel. but they are a 16" wheel. the newer chrysler cars have bolt pattern that is very close to the 5x4" circle. i think the minivans are this pattern. zedpapa |
