Was under the hood today and noticed a box on the drivers side that says 'Emergency start ignition must be on'. How does this usually work, I messed with it for a moment but couldn't get anything out of it.

That would be the seat belt safety interlock switch. If your car will start with you sitting in the seat with your seat belt unhooked, don't worry about. I left mine in my Duster for orginality, even though the seat belt interlock has been disabled. |

I figured it had something to do with that. I just never really paid much attention to it before. The car starts fine, it just caught my eye today and peaked my curiousity. Thanks. |

The little red cylinder sticking out the side actually is shrouding a reset button inside. Every great once in a while, my son's '74 Dart Sport won't start, and he has to depress the reset button. You can hear a tiny "click". We never reinstalled the seat belt harness, and it usually starts without any problems. Someday, I may do the by-pass wiring I read somewhere on here in another thread. I just cut all the wires that went to the box and wired them together. It is hidden in electrical tape so the judges can't see it. |
