I just did the HEI conversion on my daughters 72 Valiant and the operation was a success. From now on,when I convert a 72 back slant it will be the HEI unless it is a performance build which will get a MSD.
For a daily driver the HEI is the way to go.

hello sl6 sages- havent had a sl6 with a points distributor in 20 years. thought the electronic ignition in the sl6s since 73 have been excellent. recently have heard that the GM HEI is better . isnt that the one with the big distributor that has the coil in its top? could a sage specify how this system is better or an improvement over the chrysler electronic system. also is it a major retrofit to put one on a sl6? do you use the same chrysler distriutor since that big GM one wont fit . thanks bob fisher

HEI upgrade, install a NAPA Echlin long-tip rotor # MO-3000 with Standard-Bluestreak CH-410X cap and (if you have a '74-down head w/spark plug tubes) put in NGK ZFR5N plugs gapped to 0.045".
