Post subject:  Pertronix or Chrysler distributor for HEI conversion?

I'm really just looking for opinions, since I'll more'n likely go with the Chrysler unit for the conversion, but would some of you say the Pertronix Ignitor is any better than the complete Chrysler electronic dizzy, or vice-versa, or are they pretty much the same? I wouldn't think either one would have gobs more performance than the other (if any), but I'm curious about longevity. I haven't heard any complaints about either, so I'm digging for opinions from you guys.

I've just ordered everything but the distributor, so gimme your thoughts...

The pertronix is a points replacement system and won't work as a trigger for a HEI module.

Hmm, I did not know that. Looks like the Chrysler distributor really is my only option, eh?

Edit: Is it because it's a hall effect unit that it won't work as an HEI trigger? I had thought the Chrysler electronic distributors were hall effect as well.

nope, hall efect has more than just 2 cables. that's magnetic trigger (chrysler OEM) plus the chrysler is really bulletproof.

Petronix is self contained. It would eliminate the need for an HEI.

Coil and advance curve will affect performance much more than ignition type.

The Pertronix won't work because it is a self contained ignition unit. The output signal is totally wrong - although if you really wanted, I suppose you could build an interface to trigger it anyway.

Later Mopar distributors found in K-cars use a Hall effect sensor. All factory electronic slant sixes use variable reluctors.

I plan to use an MSD Blaster 2, but setting the advance curve is still a bit alien to me, so I'm gonna need to research that and get some pointers before doing the conversion.
