ok di the super six mod awhile back and it workd great, so when the car stared running rough i played around with the mixture/ idle speed settings and that helped alittle, so just recently it started running bad again(stalling,low/fluctuating vac guage, doggy leaving a traffic light etc.) so i lived with that untill it got unbearable and looked around and figured out the top row of intake nuts had loosened up. tighten touuse down and it helped alot. now to the subject went to reset the valves today and all were in spec except no. 5 intake, so i reset them all now the car runs great except that at an idle im only gettin about 11 in of reasonably steady vacume, and its still a dog getting off of a light with a slight stumble. what gives? |

I'd check three things. Timing (likely retarded), vacuum leak, and garbage in the carb's idle circuit. |

I didn't think you were still allowed to say 'retarded'............ |

when we rebuilt the carb the kit came with two manifold gaskets and i noticed that they were thinner than the origional. one looked just like the 2bbl gasket cept it was thinner and the other had a bridge between the barrels. since they were thin i put them both on could this cause a problem? |

When I was running a BBD I constantly had problems with the carb to manifold nuts loosening causing a vacuum leak. I had to tighten them at least every 3-4 months until I put a very thin bead of black silicone on both sides of the carb to intake gasket. I still had to tighten the bolts occasionally but when they would loosen I would not get the leak. Take a can of ether and spray around the intake and carb and listen for changes in engine speed to locate vacuum leaks. A bead of the orange gasket maker (I use ultra copper) on both sides of the intake/exhaust gasket cured a lot of my vacuum leak problems as well. |

Duster-- Don't forget the possibility of a loose throttle shaft bushing. BBDs are notorious for them. The easy way to check is with WD40, which is combustible, but not as combustible as starting fluid or brake cleaner. Let us know how it all turns out, Joe |
