| Post subject: | fuel line mod |
Just a couple questions and a comment about this mod. The doorman part# 492-024 is a 90deg fitting.I have three carb books (Holley,Carter,Rochester)These books state to avoid 90 deg fittings wherever possible,as these give the most fluid friction and therefore are more restrictive than straight-through or 45 deg fittings. So therefore wouldn't the Doorman 43076 5/16" IV-flare straight fitting be a better idea?Or does the 90deg work fine. Also: Is there a way of securing the fuel line,or do you need to? Thanks JZ |

There is absolutely no need to worry about "fluid friction" in your fuel inlet fitting until you have a monster, brute, multiple-hundred-horsepower engine with an enormous, thirsty carburetor. You're not gonna have anywhere near that kind of fuel volume flow with a 1bbl, 2bbl or even most 4bbls on a slant. From a fuel line routing perspective, the straight fitting works best with Holley 1920s, 90° on Carter BBS and BBD and Holley 1945. No need to secure the fuel hose. |

Dam Dan you were right on top of this one. I actually have already done this mod in a way.I used a piece of 5/16 steel fuel line.It seems as though I am having some hot fuel issues with it this way though. The fuel line seems pretty hot,the car has headers so the engine bay gets pretty hot.So on to fuel inj hose. Any comments welcomed. Thanks JZ |

I'm still using the fuel injection hose I put on 5 or 6 years ago. I did secure mine, with a simple zip tie to the heater hose bracket on the side of the valve cover. I left some slack in the line and clip the tie to allow removal of the valve cover for valve adjusting. On the topic of FI line, I also replaced all the soft lines in the fuel system of my car since it seems to hold up better with todays fuel. There was a topic on Moparts about people having hard starting problems after the engine gets hot and wondering if todays fuel isn't the reason for this. My self, no issues with it. |
