Hello again! Just wanted to know if anyone ever encountered oil depoits around the spark plug. I took the spark plug boots off and noticed the problem. I'm guessing the sleeves going into the block may be bad. If you have any guidance it would much appreciated. I didnt notice it until today when I finally drove it into Augusta to get the exhaust put on. Thanks guys! |

Tube seals on the block have probably gone bad. I think NAPA still sells them. They should be replaced every 10 years. |

The rubber O-rings that seal the tubes to the head could be bad but if the boots are good you shouldn't see much oil getting past them. If the valve cover is leaking you could get some oil from there. Finally, if the plugs are not seated tightly it might be possible for some oil to get into the tubes past the spark plug seat. |

Disagree. Even the best spark plug boots will not hide or compensate for leaking spark plug tube seals. |

Its easy to take them out. Just remove the spark plugs, plug tubes, and gentyly pry out the old seals with a pocketknife. Clean the groove well before reinstalling the seals. Coat them lightly with motoer oil before reinstalling them. Lastly, they are seals, not bushings. |

Yep, B45384 will get you a spark plug tube seal at NAPA (you'll need to order six). Or, you can get a set of six from Fel-Pro under P/N ES12794. Probably a good time to change to the extended-nose NGK ZFR5N spark plugs. Remember, on '63-'74 heads, remove the metal ring washers that come on the spark plugs, for they are not used in this application. |
