| Post subject: | replacing timing chain |
I was replacing my gears and chain afer the cam gear striped and was wondering were the marks should line up? I think the cam is on #1 tdc because the rotor is lined up with # 1 and the #1 valves are closed but the mark on the cam gear is at like 9 o'clock. and the crank mark is at 9 o'clock does this make sence? |

I like your science....but.... The rotor pointing at #1 is an ok idea if your timing chain was new. I suspect the chain was stretched ,,,the valve timing off ...but you advanced the distributor so the spark timing was close. Your method allows you to at least find TDC for #1 on the damper. I suggest lining up TDC and seeing where the mark is. If it lines up right then I might be tempted to just line up the cam as well. Where the timing set is from has a lot to do with how well the marks line up with reality... |
