How does the Super 6 differ than a 255ci /6? I have been told that it has more power & has a 2bbl carb.

Here's an article on the Super Six.

I assume you mean the 225, the larger of the three production slant sixes.

The Super Six is basically a two barrel carb and a bigger exhaust. Your van will really benefit from it. I have messed around quite a bit with slant powered vans in the past. I highly recommend you get a super six and increase your exhaust size to at least a 2 1/4 inch single exhaust. be advised, unless you find one of the very rare van Super Six air cleaners and throttle linkage, you will have to run an aftermarket air cleaner and get creative with the throttle.

It makes a pretty big difference. My 73 has a Super six, and my 74 has the old 1BBL on it. The 73 pulls a lot harder and is more fun to drive then the 74 is.

The article is very informative. However, a Super 6 in California would be hard to come by. This option was not available in my Great State due to our emissions laws. But today, a car in CA that is a 1975 or older model year is now exempt from smog laws. Which is why I sought out the van I bought.

You are correct, I meant a 225 engine.

Good looking van, by the way. :D

Super Sixes are hard to come by in California, but they pop up on eBay and here regularly.

The intake manifold and the carb are the main pieces to et. These days I recommend just using a lokar or similar kickdown kit and being creative with the throttle linkage.

You can also modify a cast iron one barrel intake to accept a two barrel carb. Do a search on this site.

There's a complete super six sitting in an aspen wagon at the pick-a-part in San Bernardino. It's the one on 9th Street. I was there yesterday and pulled another one from another aspen. When it rains it pours!

Question: I've got a 727 trans and wonder if the kickdown will work?
