Since I did not read this article first, I did not notice the little rubber pieces of gasket that fit in the rear main seal cap. I dabbed in some black rtv and then placed the cork on top and then put the pan in place. Is this going to be a problem? Will it leak?


edit:
I forgot to mention above that I noticed the rubber seals after I put it all together. In other words, all I have is black rtv in there without the little corner looking seals.

I have followed doc's instructions and thew seem to work pretty well.

I have had some motors still leak a bit when using the instructions, But I believe it was the rear main , not the pan.

If you completly filled the "L-tab" pockets with RTV, there is a good chance that it will seal.

"A little dab" is not going fill the voids where the L-tabs belong and it will leak.

I did fill in the space, because it certainly looked like it needed it. Is it possible to pull the pan in a 69 valiant with the motor still in the car if I unbolt the motor mounts and lift the motor with a hoist? I am thinking that if I put the motor in and is starts leaking like a siv(sp?), I will want to fix it without yanking the motor again.

You can drop the oil pan on a 69 Valiant if you remove the steering center link first.
