Post subject:  Cruise Control On A '87 D100?

I wasn't sure which board to put this on,but here goes...

I was wondering if it is possible to have cruise control on a '87 D100 with a slant 6. Of all the /6-equipped vehicles I've seen in the junkyards, none have had cruise control. Does anyone know if it was even available on a /6 vehicle?

Yes, cruise was an available option. Seeing most slant powered trucks were lower priced, lower optioned trucks, you will not find that many buyers ordered it. If you are interesred in putting cruise control, on your truck, there are after market kits available. I reccommend the SCS unit. I have installed many of them without a problem. Have had one on my own truck for 15 years and it still works fine.

I installed an aftermarket CC of unknown brand back in '84 on my then new '84 D150. It worked OK but the new kits with more electronics work better.

Three years ago, I installed a CC made by AudioVox on my '84 D100(different truck than the one above), cost then was $99.95.
One thing that saves some fabrication work is to score a throttle bracket off an OEM CC off a slant six car at the junkyard. It is one piece that has two clamps, one for the throttle cable and one for the servo cable so there is no need to fab a servo bracket. The one I have came off a Super Six as I had installed a BBD on my truck. If you run a 1945 Holley 1bbl, get one off a 1 bbl slant six with CC.
Another junkyard/parts store item that may be out there is a speed sensor that mounts inline of the speedo cable to eliminate the need for driveshaft magnets and the pick-up bracket. I'm thinking there may be one that will install between the cable and trans. Anyone know of one?

If you have a standard shift, you can trigger the CC from the negative terminal of the ignition coil. There are speedo cable, signal generators, for many different cables. If all else fails, there is the magnet on the driveshaft method.

Thanks for the Echlin VSS232 part # Dan.
I'll try Charlie's tip first of using the neg coil term as a signal, my D100 has an 833od.
Every 3K-4K miles, I have to adjust my magnets or pu bracket
