How much can usally be taken off the block and the head before you have to start notching pistons and using custom push rods. How much cam lift can you get away with also. |

Oil City, That's about 80 Miles north of me. I have .100" off the block and .110" Off the head. I ust the thinnest Head gasket possible - thew old chrysler steel shim ones. You can probably take .100" off the head and still use stock push rods, espically if you run a big cam (smaller base circle) I bought .200" short push rods when I decked the block too. I use a .528 lift cam. Valve notches will be a result of 3 things - Cam lift - cam Duration and how much you take off the head and block comined. I used to run the above combo with no Valve notches. Then I bought 1.6 Roller rockers - It increased my lift to .562" I believe. I installed.040" notches at this point. Every combo is different. use playdough and set up your engine .090" clearance between valve and pistion (no head Gasket). Check for that measurment and you will be safe. Greg |
