| Post subject: | Cleaning an Alt.? |
I'd like to clean my slavage yard Alt. to make it look like a new one. How or what chemical should I use to bring the casing back to a like new look. I'd like not to disesemble the alterator. I am worried about killing it with strong chemicals. Disesemble maybe the best way to do it, I just have never opened one before. Mine is not real dirty, its just not new looking. http://www.renaissanceracing.com/images ... ntSerp.JPG |

Use etching-type mag wheel cleaner from the parts store, then spray it with some kind of clear-coat (paint). |

The ecthing won't hurt the windings? |

No, because: 1) the windings are coated with a very durable elastomeric coating, and 2) You don't need to leave the cleaner on the case long enough to cause problems. |

You can start by degreasing it with electrical cleaner (the stuff you clean the inside of computers and circuit boards with)... |
