Post subject:  A few tasks

I recently bought a 65 valiant (225) and I hope to spend some time with it this weekend.

Looking for a few pointers on my first two tasks.

I bought a Napa (premium) brand water pump along with a new 180 thermostat. I am going to be adding these to the car and plan on doing a complete coolant flush at the same time. What should I keep in mind for the flush? I know to keep the heater dial on warm so that the coolant from the heater core will drain, but what else? Is there a certain procedure I should use? What about coolant? What brand at what dilution is everyone using. Also should I use a "flush" designed for cleaning coolant systems, what brand?

Then I will be changing the erl. Dont want to start a war but what oil at what ratings are you all using? I am in the NW and we are getting into the cold season. (its october here not sure what month is where you are....J/K) Also thinking about some sort of oil "flush" for the engine as well to get out some grime, any thoughts?

I appreciate any help. I have manuals and books on the way, but hoping to get some help in the mean time.

It doesn't get all that cold in Portland typically. I used 10W30 year round when I lived there, just as I do here. Just be sure to change it regularly, especially if you do mostly city driving. The cold, damp climate is conducive to condensation which does all kinds of nasty things to your motor oil.
