Hey guys see if you can give a little help here before I go mongo this thing. My 82 D-150 has a remanufactured Holley 1945 on it that has worked flawlessly for the past five years. This year it won't idle half the time. I have disassembled it and blown out the idle passages with carb cleaner, removed the idle screw and cleaned it also whether it needed it or not. It ran fine for about a week and today it started it again. It won't idle at all and is extremely lean on the idle circuit. Shut the choke and it will idle slightly but shuts off as soon as you open it back up. It has a new fuel filter and the bowl was spotless with no deposits anywhere. I checked for vacuum leaks and I have none. What do you guys think? If you need more info let me know.

Sometimes Holley carbs wake up on defferent days and are moody. But if you want a racing carb that you can tune for bat out of hell wide open git -er-done its my choice. Jeb i know your app is defferent just wanted talk some trash. Thanks Possum :D

Well my 1945 is a race carb!  It has two power valves (oooh, aaaah). Runs like a bat out of hell! No not really, esp. in a truck with 3.21 gears and a car trailer behind it.

If the carb is not a total basket case, you might look into a few other things that show up as 'carb' problems:

1) check your timing and plugs and wires (hopefully the chain isn't walking or timing isn't off a tooth now, or the plugs and wires,etc... are really overdue for a replacement.
2) Check the cat convertor if still existant...also check to make sure the heat stove flap hasn't stuck (that can cause some really intermittent 'carb' issues)

good luck!

The plugs are new along with wires, cap, and rotor. Cat. convertor is gone, and flapper in manifold works perfect. Engine has 116,000 miles on it. Chain was replaced 50,000 miles ago.

It runs perfect above idle.
