My last post for today :
I replaced my distributor cap this afternoon and... surprise! One of my "spring" that secure the distributor cap is too small to grab it. Well I managed to do it but it takes a lot of effort...
Did they give me the wrong cap or is it just normal on a new one???
And by the way : what's stock for ignition wires at the distributor : straight or angled boots? It's such a pain to put the ones that are down low...
Thanks again

Marc

I've had that problem before as well; make sure your rotor is fully seating on the shaft. I've had a couple of the Borg Warner rotors which had the "key" cast too wide and it would shave it down as it seated on the shaft, but not go on quite all the way. A few minutes with a razor blade and fine file fixed it. As far as wires, every set I've always seen has had straight boots on both ends.

One thing to make sure you didn't over look, it the distributor has a metal tab that engages in the notch in the cap to orient the cap properly, if it's reversed a newbie can think it's not going on right...

Also some caps are not as nice to get on, and some late model distributors (mostly in the 1973-1976 range) have had a tolerance problem with the body and can aggravate things (never had a problem with the Bluestreak cap, but try a late distributor and an Echlin cap...sheesh...)

Also some remanf. distributors can be out of spec and not let the cap seat right either...
