OK finally got my new radiatior from US radiator. which was taller, wider and thicker. modified the mounting points. flushed out all the rusty water from the cooling system. (that took at least 5 hours) was unable to use stock fan due to new radiator thickness so I test drove without. freeway was no problem. 180-185 tops. much better then the 200 -210- 220 I was normally faced with. got off the freeway with no fan and all the sudden my problems are reversed. Im running 200-210. no suprise. go to my local speed shop take some mesurements on some ugly aftermarket fans. buy one take it home install and... problem solved. 180 or a little less. I cant wait till this thursday when I drive to San Jose to see the Sharks and Rangers without worrying about overheating.

Was it supposed to be a direct-replacement? I've considered getting a fancy radiator from them as well, but I always assumed it would bolt right in without mods...

I ordered the rad. for a 64 valiant and assumed it would be a direct replacement. The hoses all lined up without a problem. but you cant use any of the stock mounting points. mounting is pretty easy although not stock in appearance. I just drilled new holes in the front support and through bolted it. and the stock fan doesn't fit. but aftermarket ones fit easily. price paid was slightly over $300. small price to pay for peice of mind. I know every part of the cooling system is brand new (sans heater core) which blows nice and hot. car has never gotten over 180 since I put it in. and I've buzzed it at 3500rpm for a mile or two just ta make sure.
