found a 74 dart in the junkyard and it still had the k-member in it. took a look and couldn't tell what the advantage is to having one. the motor mounts were all i saw as being superior, and i'm not changing the front suspension for that alone. if i remember correctly, the 73-76 k-member has an opening for the sway bar to pass through where as the 67-72 the sway bar mounts under it and forward slightly. is that the difference? zedpapa |

Pre-73 k-frames used the rubber isolator motor mounts. 73-up use spool-type mounts. Holds the engine more secure, but in a slant six I don't think it makes much of a difference. Its not like these motors make enough torque to rip the mounts apart anyway. |

I've got a pair out of the '66 that are pretty well beat up. I'm gonna make me some solid steel ones at work this week. |

Yeah, but you are running nitrous on a pretty serious motor! The average daily driver slant might wear the mounts out after a couple decades. |

As has been previously noted, the older style rubber mounts are quite thick and soft, allowing a lot of fore and aft movement of the engine, especially after a couple of years of use. Many an early a-body has munched a radiator in a panic stop. |

so if i understand correctly, the motor mounts are the main difference? besides the sway bar, of course. i know the sway bar on a 67-72 mounts forward and the 73-76 passes through the k-member. are the k-members otherwise dimensionaly the same? does it still pass under the engine in roughly the same spot? if the answer to both of the above questions is yes, then theoretically you could modify the 67-72 to accept the 73-76 sway bar? am i correct? as far as motor mounts go, the pancake ones are pretty flimsy and are barely sufficent for the slant IMO. i have seen chevy small block mounts that are similar in design but have tabs on them to limit movement. something similar could be designed. zedpapa |

The center link, pitman arm and the idler arm are also different between the two. Is it is nice to have the sway bar tucked up into the K-member thou. |
