After I degreased my engine, I discovered that it was blue. That should tell you how how dirty my motor was.

While reading many posts on this forum, I have seen some engines that are red. Does anyone know why Dodge used two colors for their motors? Also, what color is your Dodge engine?

Two colors? Ha!

There were blue slants, and yellow slants, probably some black ones, and who knows what other colors.

The slant was produced for a long time, and was used in cars, trucks, RV's, forklifts, boats, and industrial applications all over the world. So, variations abound.

My slant came in red, and that's fine with me!

If its the original engine for your van (cool van by the way), its Chrysler blue like D.I. said.

I don't think that it is the same but I have owned cars with 3 different 318 blocks (red,blue and black) and there were slight differences among them. Most noticeably was the black block, which came in an ex police car. That block seemed to be a bit beefier as far as the crank cam and cylinder walls were concerned. Mostly, I just think that it gives a basic indication as to when it was built.

Engine color in the North American market was a simple function of model year. Slant-6s were red through early '69 (except in '60-'61 big Dodges and Plymouths, where they were were dark metallic turquoise or silver, and Dodge trucks and vans, where from '63-'69 they were yellow). Light aqua/turquoise in '69, blue from '70 through early '83, and black thereafter. Small-block V8 engine colors followed similar but not necessarily identical year splits.

My 225 in my '83 D150 is green. So I guess it was repainted before I got it? I have seen blue and red frequently, and I've seen black on remanned engines, but this is the first one I've ever seen green.

In the grand spirit of carrying on the engine color threads endlessly, does anyone know a good substitute for the Mopar Yellow used on mid 60's trucks? I am ready to swap heads on my 65 Sweptline, so since I was told the Mopar yellow was no longer available, I grabbed a can of Chevy yellow My head looks like something off a bannana boat....there's gotta be something closer

I'd love to make the Chevy yellow my primer color and find a more suitable paint for the finish coats

Oh yeah, the block is black at the moment so I have nothing to match.....

Any suggestions for the goat? I went to buy paint the other day and realized I hadn't given it any real thought. The body is white with red trim. Interior is red. I thought about red under the hood to match the scheme, but I'm not sure. I was looking to pain the manifolds and vavle cover, not the block. What colors are they typically painted?

I think a red engine w/ black manifolds and valve covers would look sharp. Especially if you used crinkle paint on the valve cover.

I can't really paint the block as it's still in the truck. Although I think it would look nice. And I want to stay away from too much black, specifically not on the valve cover. (I once heard that used cars with parts painted black indicated possible oil leaks.) Do you think it would be difficult to creat a marbling effect with two colors, say black and red?
