| Post subject: | 225 for a 198 swap |
Alright. With the original deal for a replacement 225 falling through, I was offered a smooth running 198 out of a '72 Dart. Seller removed motor along with smooth shifting tranny all in one piece. Plus, the price was something I simply couldn't turn down considering the current state of my wallet. Since I am still educating myself on the world of the Slant 6 I have some questions that may seem simple to some. But, I've quickly learned that this place has some rather reliable sources of info. Is it a direct swap in pulling my injured 225 and installing the 198? While I'm not looking to invest too much inthe 198, I am interested in rebuilding the 225 for a reswap sometime down the road. Does someone have a link to a rebuild that will give me increased performance while keeping the reliability that I love so much about the 225? Thanks in advance. |

Check the motor mounts, oil pan and pickup. They may be different depending on what chassis you are installing it in. |

The 198 won't present any more challenge than a same-year 225. The blocks are the same, and all the interfaces are the same. Having a matching transmission helps. I know there were some variations in the tailshafts of 904's, but I don't know the year or model breaks. That might require some adaptation around the transmission mounts. |

Grab the 198 even if your not going to use it. Those rods are getting harder to find. |
