I have a Carter bbd that I removed from a 79 Volare super six that I am planning on rebuilding but it is not like the bbd that is currently installed on my super six in my Dart that also came from a 79 Volare.
The carb I am planning to rebuild still has the tag on it and has these numbers on it;
1ST NO. 6317S
2ND NO.3462 With a larger 326 beside it.
This carb has the correct super six choke lever and worked correctly on the engine it was removed from but has a bowl vent instead of being a "tin top"carb like my other carb.
I found the number 6317 on the internet and it crossed to a 73 318 but what has me stumped is the carb having the correct parts for a super six and the carb shows absolutely no signs of being butchered or modified from a 318 carb.
I would like to rebuild this carb as I am having a few issues with the tin top bbd that is currently on my Dart.
I realize that this carb may not be original to the car it was removed from and probably isnt but could it be an early 76 carb or possibly an even earlier "export" carb,I am having trouble finding a kit and any help as always is appreciated.

Yep, 6317s is a 1973 318 BBD. All that would've been necessary to make it hook up 100% perfectly to a \6 is to swap the choke shaft or even just the choke shaft lever -- not difficult to do. Pretty sure all of the Super Six carbs were high-top/tin-top units, though '76 units could've been similar to your '73 carb.

In any event, if this '73 carb is in fundamentally good condition, throttle shaft junction isn't worn (or is rebushed), and you're able to set the idle speed properly low, then no reason not to use it!

Thanks Dan,and actually one of the problems with the tin top thats currentley on my Dart is that it will not idle below 900 rpm,I think that the throttle shafts are worn enough to act like the throttle blades are open too far.It actually idles well and gets good mileage but the idle screw is backed all the way out and still idles about 900 rpm.

Yep, one of the symptoms of a worn throttle shaft junction is inability to set the idle correctly. But, a lot of those V8 carbs have calibrated holes drilled in the throttle plates for idle air—the plates are permitted to close completely. But, if you use such a carb on an engine smaller than that for which it was originally calibrated, the idle will be too high.
