My headlights along with all the other lights in my car flicker in intensity. The voltage gauge (aftermarket) Goes from 13.8v to 14.5v about 8 times a second. At idle (600 RPM) everything is steady at 12.8v. Once RPM is brought up and voltage increases to 14.5 it starts bouncing between 13.8v and 14.5v. I have a dual field alt and the matching voltage regulator.(74 Dart) Both are new. What can I do about this? If I where the car ahead of me, I might think that I was being flashed or he had a loose headlight. Is there such a thing as a faster reacting regulator or is mine bad out of the box? |

14.5 is too high. Is your alternator really new, or is it a 'rebuilt/remanufactured' unit from the parts store? Really old thread with info and lively debate on the usual fix here. |

Bad alt brushes or broken holders will cause intermittant connections that could cause your problem. They are easy to remove & replace. |
