Can anyone with the "full throttle" kickdown version of the A-904 (pre-70's) tell me what their rpm drop is between warmed up idle in park, and "foot on brake" in Drive?

I'm getting a hesitation on my '67 Valiant for it to "kick down" a gear when coming to a stop, I also am finding that in park it has to idle at 1500 rpm so when I drop it into gear and drive around it stays at 600-700 rpm at the stop light with the foot on the brake in drive...

I'm thinking the poor car is over due for a tranny overhaul, but it seems to drive and shift well otherwise.

thanks,

They are supposed to downshift when you pull up to a stop? Here I always figured that accelerating from 2 mph in 3rd was chrysler way of proving what a torque monster the slant is.

Absolutely yes!
