I was going to put this in the PM about carbs, but your symptoms (can't rev above 3000, pinging at road load) suggests you may have excessive restriction in your exhaust system, due to a collapsed baffle or tube in the existing muffler or some other fault. So, looking at a new exhaust system is probably a good idea.

All the exhaust manifolds have a 2" outlet. Your present headpipe is 1¾", with a 1-7/8" tailpipe. The factory Super Six exhaust used a 2¼" headpipe and a 1-7/8" tailpipe, with the same muffler (2¼" in, 1-7/8" out) used on the 318-equipped cars. With a 225, this is a good-flowing and economical exhaust system to duplicate. Muffler selection is up to you, but my experience is that most of the "performance" mufflers sound fun for a week, then they just sound annoying as all heck.

Im about to get the same exhaust within the next month. What would you suggest as far as a nice sounding muffler for the slant? Something within an affordable price range.

I like my Magnaflow, an oval stainless unit my local muffler shop put on for me. Nice sound, not to loud. You know its there, but is near silent at 60-65. Only gets to be a pain when romping on it. However, if your putting it on an A body, they have less insulation than what my car has, so it may be a bit louder for you. It was around $80, not to bad for a muffler that will last for awhile.

I have a Flowmaster 40 series on my Duster and it sounds great, especially at idle. It is not to obtrusive either. I have a 2 1/4 exhaust from the manifold to the tailpipe, and it does make a difference over the stock 1 7/8 pipe, especially when combined with the supersix.

I have headers 2.5" pipe to a Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler(not a glasspac) and 2.25" pipe out the back. If you want it to be quiet don't copy mine. Mine has a really nice performance sound all through operating range. It isn't obnoxious loud but when I punch it people look.
