| Post subject: | Re-birth of the Krylon Special |
This past summer the Krylon car got put out of commision due to one nasty pavement exchange resulting in a broken tranny. ![]() ![]() So we pulled the motor and tranny out of the car and realized that the engine needed some work done to it, but didn't realize the amount it really needed to be "right". The valves looked really bad, the #1 cylinder wall was damaged, the mains were shot, etc... After months of work and finding the right parts the engine is rebuilt and has never sounded so alive. Motor was bored an extra .020" making it .060" bored now. Ditched the Isky cam for a better suited Comp cam. Crank was polished and balanced along side new mains. Running a holley 4bbl (390) which never ran good on the car before but sounds superb now. Still quite a bit of fine tuning and proper routing of the throttle and transmission linkage left to do. Also never bothered to check the rear axle ratio and found quite a shock there. Thru the 2.56's out and dropped in a nice set of 3:73's. Look out for the new, improved and stronger than ever Krylon Special next year. HUGE thanks to the Bubba's crew for their help, support and resources to bring the car back to life. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Took the maiden test voyage last night and wow wow wow. The little slant has some life to her. The engine rebuild went great with no hitches, leaks or problems. Now for a good day of fine tuning the carb and we'll be golden. |

Damn dude that rat rod is tight! Nice work! Are you going with a full enclosed hood or will the engine be open? |

That is too cool! I am building a 1919 Chrysler.....was going w/ a 6, but decided on a 354 Hemi. What typr of steering are you running?Do you have a spring on the rearend? Are you running an A body rear? Thanks-Andrew/Kidd |

Thanks for the comments. The steering box was just one we had laying around the shop. I'm going to tell you it's a vega or corvair box, but don't know that to be 100% true or not. Speedway motors kit front end. We're running coilovers on the rearend. Nope, the body is all 1918 Dodge steel, nothing A used. Rear driveline is late model chevrolet blazer/pick up.
Thanks-Andrew/Kidd |
