Personally, I would go the custom spring route. A local spring shop here in town can make springs (stock, lift, or lowered) for less than it costs to order new ones!
If you do not have a local spring shop, then I see your dilemma.

Hi Guys! I have run into a parts wall trying to find a new rear spring set for my 64 d100 utiline. Unfortunately it seems a rear spring set is not possibe unless custom bent. I found a place that says the mid 80's chebby (I can hardly type the words) springs bolt right in as they too are 26" and 26" eye to center to eye, (52 inches total) and are also 2 1/2 inches wide. Chebby springs use a 9/16 bolt in the eye, but we all can drill a 9/16 hole in an existing 1/2" hole in the shackle, so no problem adapting to that. Except my main source, Espo Springs and Things says, "Wait now, they may bolt right up but do they have the arch to hold the bed at the same height? Can they keep the bed from wallowing? Hey, I dunno! Any of you guys know for sure...as in done it or seen it done? Can I put in a chebby set and ride off to the sunset, or should I be putting an ad in the the wanted section of the forum? Hi Rock....its just dark here,,,as in too dark to see.....but tomorrow I will look under GFs 66 D100 and the Honkey Tonk (75 GMC plow truck) and have a quick compare. They are parked almost side by side. Beware....all my GM stuff is 3/4 or 1 ton and 4x4 so the comparison will be rough. BTW GM rear springs are the same 73-91 |

Thanks for the words guys! A person from a truck forum sent me a note saying contact Eaton springs. A little googling and I was there. WOW!! They must be the definitve spring place. They are in Detroit, have their own DD and /6 Dan in a fellow named "Mike the guru". It took about 1 minute of his first answer to show me I had stumbled in a person that knows his stuff. Most impressive and of course they have all springs in stock and not just for trucks...you Dart and Valiant guys oughta look at them. I ordered right up. Mike can tell you how high you will ride with various configurations, arches and things like Chebby springs in a mopar. Im glad that worked out Rock! Burying Mr Marcinuk took longer than we thought today.....so it took me longer to compare springs....looks to me like a close ride height match. |
