I have a 69 Dart /6. It has been modified slightly. Bored out .060 Clifford intake Edelbrock 4-barrel msd blaster coil. I had been having lots of problems with the points burning out and the car not starting up. I replaced the resistor on the firewall and it's still burning out points. I decided to buy an electronic ditributor on the advice of my buddy.

First off does anyone know what would be causing the points to burn like that?
Second where do the 2 wires on the new distributor run to?

you cant just take the points distributer out and put in an electronic one. you also need a control module of some sort, either a MOPAR one or the other popular method is using a GM HEI module. I used the GM HEI module. All you do is connect both of the wires from the distributer to one side of the HEI module and then the + and - from the coil to the other side of the module. with this setup you can eliminate the ballast resistor by just putting a jumper wire where the BR was.

I like the GM E-Core coil along with the bracket and heatsink for the HEI module shown in this thread. Should be cheap in a junkyard near you. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21055

Thanks everyone for the info. Does the HEI module need to be a from a certain year vehicle? Does it have to be from GM? Do I need the whole coil w/HEI? How much should I expect to spend for what I need? Where should I get one. Do you recommend ebay? Thanks again guys.

It doesn't really need to be from a specific car or from GM; I'm running a Standard Motor Products HEI module in my Dart along with an Accel Super Stock coil. I'd pick them up at a local parts store, rather than eBay, as you won't have to pay shipping and deal with some of the hassles you'll have with eBay.

I took this module out of a V8 Fiebird in a yard and my brother in law gave me the race coil. All I needed to do was make 5 wires, 2 from the coil to the module, 2 from the module to the distibuter and one to eliminate the ballast resistor.
