| Post subject: | 8 1/4 and 8 3/4 rear question |
I have an 8 1/4 rear that I will be putting into my dart. When I got this rear I did not get the shock plates. I see shock plates on Ebay for 8 3/4 rears. Will these fit a 8 1/4 rear. I don't know if the axle diameters are the same or ??? Can anyone clear this up for me? I got a sure grip unit with 3:55 gears Thanks for any help. Matt |

Charlie I ASSUMED this might be a suspension queston. BUT I think I posted this under the wrong heading. Sorry -- move it if you think it is. |

You should have posted this thread in the transmission and rearend forum. Shock plates from an 8 3/4 will work just fine on your 8 1/4 rear. That was what I used when I swapped an F-body 8 1/4 into my 70 Valiant for a few weeks before finding an 8 3/4. I used the same shock plates for both the 8 1/4 and then the 8 3/4. |

Thank you for your reply. I have not had luck in finding any. I won a bid on Ebay for a set for $10 but it turns out they are for a 7 1/4. The guy made a mistake in the listing. So we cancelled the sale. The people at the U pull it seem to be very happy with torches when they pull a rear. None there either. Matt |

Those spring plates are rather common. I suspect you could get them from any hotrod shop or for that matter your local chrysler dealer. |
