Post subject:  Throttlebody Question

If I were to put a throttlebody setup on say a clifford 4bbl intake manifold Would it require a heated manifold Like a carb?

or is Throttlebody smart enough to compensate for that?

Thanks, Greg

You'd probably want to find a way to heat your intake, yes. A TBI system is still a "wet manifold" system, subject to the same issues as a carbureted wet manifold system. Fuel will still condense and puddle on the floor and walls of a cold intake. All factory TBI systems I'm aware of have heated intakes and thermostatic air cleaners. You could put a water-heated spacer under the throttle body, which wouldn't be as good as water-heating the floor of the intake below the throttle body, but combined with a thermostatic air cleaner setup would probably get you by OK.

If I were putting TBI on a slant, I'd almost certainly use a thermostatic air cleaner up top, and one of Frank Raso's manifold heat kits on something other than a Clifford intake (Offenhauser, modified factory piece, etc.—something originally equipped to bolt onto the exhaust manifold.
