My 82 D-150 started to skip badly the other day whenever I tried to accelerate so I parked it. I went out to the shop today to crank it up so I can see what is wrong with it and it won't start. Turns out my coil is not firing. Swap coils with the one off the Duster and still no fire. This happened before on my Duster and it was the pick-up in the distributor. But this truck has Lean-Burn so it has two pick-up coils in the distributor. Has one of the pick-up coils gone bad or is the problem in the Lean-Burn unit itself? |

Could be either one - unplug distributor from the harnes, set your volt meter to AC volts on the lowest range, and test each distributor pickup individually. As long as you read any voltage here while cranking you should be ok I forgot what the spec was. Good time to ditch lean burn if emissions laws in state allow it. |

I was considering ditching the lean burn but since I am selling this truck I am just trying to get it going again. Could a bad pickup be causing the skipping and sputtering during medium to heavy throttle? |
