Can mechanical lifters for the big block chrysler be used in the slant sixes?

Yep. Also small block and Hemi.

I heard they are lighter than sl6 spec solid lifters and noticed some part#'s on summit for lifters for a bb and it also listed the slant 6 170 as an application but IIRC there isnt any difference between 170,198,or225 lifters.....

Is lighter better for HP or cam wear etc?

Yes but not an issue, unless using a very radical cam, and a lot of revs.
