Is the dipstick for the 904 the same one as for a 727? ( For trannies after '66)

Yes... and no.
The dipsticks will fit in the same hole and use the same o-ring but lenghts and shapes differ based on trans type and the chassis they are used in.

The biggest problem I run into is the location of the dipstick's bolt hole tab, those never seem to line-up to the matching bolt hole. These days... I simply cut and weld the tab into the needed position.
