Post subject:  IMPORTANT!! super six set up PLEASE HELP!!!

Bad News: my moms 96 honda oddessy burned down. It was a manufacturing and electrical problem from what we believe. Everything under the hood is completely clean, the motor and tranny.
Good News: the shop that checked out the van, who is a long time friend of my dads, said he'd take the motor and use it for his accord, and in turn, use it as a shop "credit " type deal.

Now, what I need help on, is my future super 6 set up. Right now i have a stock 225 & 904 in a 73 swinger. I have a carter BBD,pair of clifford headers, and an aluminum 2bbl intake. I also plan to add either an msd 6al or an msd 5900 blaster.

the shop credit would run at about $700-$800. I was wondering if maybe i could find a mild cam to add some horsepower, maybe some headwork, or other things to make my engine stronger and quicker.
if i were to add anything else i would want it to be now..

I NEED SUGESTIONS. all would help.

Post subject:  Try this approach...

Adding the cam won't get you as much "yardage" as pulling the head, cleaning up the port (just get the bumps and dingleberries out of them, don't hog them out), measure your deck height and volume of the combustion chambers, then have the head reworked (check to see if the guides aren't worn out/replace if necessary), plane the head to match a 9:1 compression ratio...then you might think about a nice mild cam (the head work and the header installation will probably chew up most of the $800 in shop credit (its about $300+ to get a head redone, and the guy will charge some $$$ to pull it and replace it as well as having fun with any broken/seozed studs).

If you still have $$$ left over then go for the cam...if you have extra $$$ then just pull the engine and go for a complete rebuild...(can be done for $1200+shop expenses, if your engine is a high miler then the rings are about due for oil bypassing anyway).

my 2 cents-

p.s. if you still have money, then get a set of 3.23's for your rear end, and you will want to recurve your distributor as the stock timing curve will not match your changes...

You got 1 thing wrong in your post.... A Honda burning to a crisp is ALWAYS a good thing! (as long as no one was hurt that is) That someone actually wants to pay you more than scrap value for it.... (even had it not burned) thats even better!

its runnin on a fresh rebuild with stock electronic ignition. the only reason why i would want to do more work is that i would want to get my value for the work, instead of haing him jack up my prices later on to get that credit off
