Sorry I vanished from the boards again, but I’m working two jobs now, 7 days a week to catch up and get ahead.

After driving thousands of miles on the new suspension

Trick Front Suspension Thread

I am so incredibly happy with how the project turned out…and I promise to post the final write up to the trick suspension thread soon…but I found that I need more HP ASAP!!!

So I started porting a cylinder head, and have been documenting the progress for a future posting. However, on my mind most lately are camshafts!

For which I just finished an extremely long but informative, and hopefully thoughtful, diatribe...and I will post it next. I just have so little time these days.

My suspension worked so well I got a careless driving ticket while testing it out. But being the geek that I am, I pleaded not guilty, came up with a defense, spent too much time preparing... and got off with "improper right turn".!!! Pissed off the officer...but oh well. That was this week and the reason I came back from North Carolina, where I was happily making good money and Top Fuel Funny Car parts again.

Gearhead AKA Karl

Welcome back friend! Glad to hear all your hard work on that front end is paying off. :D

What fuel team are you making parts for? :)

Hi Slantzilla:

I work for Bob Gilbertson at his factory in Charlotte NC. Thats the Autolite team.

The parts I make are produced out of Tungsten for the clutches. Bobs Crewchief the last 2 years was Nick Boninfante who builds all the clutches for Top Fuel. They had me start making some parts last year for them in the machine shop I was running at the Truck Equipment factory.
Truck Equipment is the company Bob owns and we produce Air Tanks and Fuel and Oil Tanks for Freightliner and Stewart Stevenson and others.

Anyway, while I was back over Christmas, I set up the 4 axis CNC lathe to make a few thousand more parts. Now we wholesale them to Nick who sells them to all the teams. So my parts are in all the Top Fuel Cars.

Welcome back Gearhead!

Your gems of wisdom is very appreciated.

Are you also expert on carbs even webers especially 32/36 DFEV/DFAV series?

Also how much retarded the camshaft can be to affect the MPG enough to drop from appox 19MPG to 13MPG?

Cheers,Wizard

Hi Wizard:

I am not an expert on any carb other than a Quadrajet. But I have tons of experience with other carbs. I have built or tuned on maybe 20 Webers/Dellortos over the years. I have 3 Dellortos. 40mm throats and a manifold for my Slant, but haven't tried them yet.

Hard to say on the cam. If the cam was the only change...it would have to be quite a bit. I would need to know more to offer any real insight.

Karl

Cool! :D

Gilby is quite a hoot, isn't he? People flock to his pits at the races just to see what's gonna happen next. :D :D :D
