How critical is it to have the rubber doughnut that goes between the distributor base plate and the block? An old boy once told me that he could'nt get his kids slant to run right without it. Thanks |

The O-ring, you mean. You need it. Without it, the distributor drive pinion won't be spaced correctly to the cam worm, which will hasten the destruction of the drive pinion. Also, there'll be an oil leak. Also, the distributor can seize in the engine block. All for want of a 15¢ O-ring! |

I wasn't able to find anything close to it locally and in my o-ring kits. I found some of those (and the skinnier one further down the shaft) on the dealer parts locater list. |

Thanks for the responses. I too tried various O-rings and found none that would fit "out of the box". Where would I find the " dealer parts locator list". Thanks again |

Ok, I think there's 2 O-rings on the distributor. 1 is an O-ring up top where the shaft transistions to the flange (slight recess in the flange). and the other is on the shaft in the middle (more like a seal than an O-ring) I haven't replaced the one in the middle of the shaft, but I did replace the one up top with an O-ring from a Harbor Freight collection of O-rings.......... |

Go to your mopar dealer parts counter. If you get an educated or old timer clerk and give them the part # they will see if they have it in stock or can do a computer search of dealers across the nation. If other dealers have them they will print you out a list with phone #'s you call and order over phone. Its best if you go with part # in hand - most parts guys aren't willing to bust out the microfiche to find a part # for you. |

Where do you guys find all the dealers that have stuff like this sitting on their shelves? I asked two different local dealers if they could get one for me, and they said that nobody (dealer-wise) had them anywhere in the US. |

This thread is growing ridiculous, folks. Why bother futzing around with dried-out old rubber O-rings from a dealer when you've been given an immediate source of fresh stock...? |

I had to dig up this old thread since I'm freshening up an electronic distributor for my '67 Valiant and I can't abide 30 year old o-rings. The small o-ring Dan listed appears to be correct, but the larger one I removed from the distributor is much thicker in section (about .170" now) than the ORB-121 Dan suggested and still bears some Chrysler blue paint on it's OD. I ordered ORV-318 which is nominally 1" ID 1 3/8" OD and 3/16" thick and appears to be the best match. I ordered a package of 5 since the smaller o-rings comes in packages of 10 at a minimum and I have two distributors to rework.
P/N for the bottom O-ring is 2095 630, and the inner diameter is 0.920". Use Small Parts Inc. P/N ORB-021. |
