Post subject:  motor swap

Me and my dad recently put a new motor in our 1982 dadge d-100. The motor came from a 1975 dodge dart. We are having a problem with voltage bleed back. Can you tell us why this is happing and how to fix it? Thanks.

Explain "Bleed Back"...

If you mean the head lights are blinking to the time of the hazards, etc.. then check your ground connections you have forgot to clean an attaching point or hook it back up to the block/firewall/headlight assembly/etc...

We really need more details to help you out. Did wires melt? Which ones? where? Fuses or fusible link blow? What was the condition of the alternator/regulator/battery before the engine was swapped, and are these the same parts you used after swap?

Help us help you. "voltage bleedback" "battery completely shorts out" and "engine swap" isn't much to go by.

If you swapped engines and moved the alternator with the engine, maybe somethings going on with the alternator (shorted diode?) but we have no idea of your situation. You can take alternators (and some do regulators too) to some local parts stores for free diagnosis.

Post subject:  more information

Okay Here is what we did. We took A motor out of a wreked !975 dadge dart. The motor was in good shape and had nothing wrong with it. We put the motor in a 1982 4speed dodge d-100. The truck had an electric lean burn ignition system and the dodge dart had a points ignition system. We kept the same alternater distributer and ignitioin system that was in the dart. We think we have it wired correctly. Everything started up fine when we first put it in. But over-night the battery went dead. We tried a different battery and the same thing happened. Do you know why this is happening or how we could fix it? Any information or ideas would be a big help.
