| Post subject: | carburetor rebuid or reman? |
My 1 bbl carb is leaking gas at the shaft assy. it runs great and I am not ready to go to a super six set up just yet. I have never rebuit a carb, should I buy one or rebuild mine? |

rebuild yours or get a junk core at ebay or by posting a wanted parts add here, you'll have a blast learning to rebuild your carbs, save big bucks on poorly reman works done by kinda reputable shops, and save big bucks on aspirine later when you discover you've turned in your fine working but leaky throttle shaft carb for a clean looking but completely junked, ill functioning piece of reman crap work. Holley or carter? |

I rebuilt my 1 bbl carb in under an hour, it was my first try. It was pretty easy, just make sure you keep track of how the parts came off, and if you have a carter make sure you don't lose those little balls in it. -Allen |

If you don't feel like rebuilding it your self you can take it to a carb shop. But it dose get spendy sometimes. |

Remember, rebuilding the carburetor by disassembling, cleaning and installing a carb kit will not fix the leaks-at-the-throttle-shaft problem. To fix that, you would need to have your carburetor's throttle body rebushed, as described here. Do not buy a "remanufactured" (or "rebuilt") carburetor from the parts store, they are garbage (and most of them will need rebushing at least as badly as yours does!) See here. |
