Post subject:  Wiring diagram for Points Ignition

Ok so i go to wire the ignition back up. Previous owner had made some modifications. Thought i was dealing with an Electronic ignition (Because there is a Box Labeled "Select" on the firewall that looks like a chrysler ignition module but on looking closer it has only two wires. So i pulled the Distributor cap and there is a set of points and a condenser.. Still Awaiting shop manual anyone have a diagram of this setup..?

Will have to at least so this out so i know where everything is if/when i convert to Electronic Ignition.. Thanks for any help you can provide..

Post subject:  Wiring

Thank You,

I did find those shortly after i asked the question..

Basically it looks like whoever owned the truck before me lost the key and decided to buy his own ballast resistor and build a whole new Ignition wireing system.. (Including a push button start)..

I got a new tumbler for the Ignition switch today and traced wiring back to the original ballast. And have wired it back up as i suspect it was before using said diagram.. I have no battery but will get one tomorrow for testing..

The "Electronic Ignition module" i found apparently is the new style Voltage regulator..

So will be shooting some WD-40 in the plug holes tomorrow am and will try for a start in the afternoon.. (After i sleep for i work at night)..

Thanks for the help.

Post subject:  Failed to Start

OK tried starting today the engine turns fine with Ignition Key.

The truck would not start though.

Did measure voltage at the + side at coil.

.9 v when the wire is connected to the coil and more or less 12v when i measure at the same point on the wire when i have pulled the wire off the coil.

Does that sound normal...?

Will go at it again tomorrow only had about an hour to play today. Have to work tonight ....

Thanks

Congratulations. It's really satisfying when you can trouble shoot a problem and fix it on your own!
