If it works out that I can get this '74 duster I'm looking at, I'm expecting the seats to be in pretty worn out condition. Is there a source for new seat foam for bench seats? I'm counting on buying new upholstery, and would like to completely refurbish the seats from the ground up if I can. Thoughts? |

Bench seats generally use fairly regularly shaped chunks of foam. See this thread about the seats in my Dart. |

Oh yeah I remember that thread. I love the black and red combination. That's what I'll go for when I have my own Mopar to work on (fingers still crossed for the Duster!). Wish I could find a pattern and the right materials so I could make my own seat covers (and a sewing machine strong enough). You raise a good point about an all-black interior being too hot and oppresive in the summer. I think I just may have to pilfer your upholstery design when I do my own seats. That may help keep the interior from looking too cave-like with black carpeting and a black dash. The seats do look to have a pretty standard shape to them as far as the foam. Was any other work done other than the foam and the covers? You mention the springs rattling before you had them done. Was it just because they had come disconnected from the seat frames?

I am pretty sure there was some work done on the springs, but I'm not sure exactly what was done. There were some rattling springs before, and now there aren't, so I'm sure some detached pieces were reattached at least. |

Interesting. Hopefully the springs and frames are still in good shape in this car. It'd be nice to only have to fix the foam (if it's in bad shape) and reupholster. I'd love to be able to do it myself too. Now if I can talk my mother into letting me use her freakin huge 200+ HP sewing machine (yes I know how to use a sewing machine) for upholstery fabric...
