| Post subject: | Carb Question |
I've got a 63 Dart 270 with a 225 six. it has a Holley one barrel carb, and it looks like it could be original. Where the fuel line goes into the carb there's what looks like a brass pressure regulator. The problem is the gas doesn't seem to be able to get through this gizmo, and the carb runs dry. I tried cranking it over with the valve removed from the carb, butstill n the end of the gas line, and no gas comes out. If I remove it, it pumps gas fine. If I bypass it and put the fuel line in without this regulator it pumps gas out of everyt orifice in the carb. Anyone know what that thing is called and whether that's the problem or is it a problem in the carb itself? Thanks in advance! |

There was no pressure regulator installed at the factory. If I understand your description correctly, it's a separate unit not part of the carburetor. From your description of what happens when you bypass it, it seems likely some previous owner installed it to cover up carburetor flooding problems. Sounds like it's past time for a careful, thorough carburetor rebuild (don't buy a "rebuilt" or "remanufactured" one from the parts store, they're junk!). |

Um, it sounds like you're describing the inlet needle and seat assembly to me. You don't want to "bypass" that. If a thorough cleaning doesn't unstick it, it's time for a new one. A carb kit should include a replacment. |
