My dad just bought me a 65 Valiant with a 170 slant six. I wanna know what i can do to make it a little hotrod and maybe turn 13's at the track.

In general, a 170 can't take as much lift increase with-out notching the piston tops.
The shorter stroke can rev to 7500 RPM without much problem, if you can get it to flow some air at that RPM.

Do you mean me?
Mine is not a daily driver, do to an 8 inch converter and 4.56 gears, but it is street legal. I do drive it locally. The engine is a "daily driver" build, but with a fogger system.

If it is a street car, a mild cam will help it, but then you will also need more carb. (Super Six)

Put a 225 into the car, that would give it a lot more "seat of the pants" power.

The only thing I was meaning to do you want it to go 13.00 or 13.99 that would make a big difference. No I was not talking about you Charlie You make 170 Slants do stuff they should not be able to do. Yes you can do this for a lot less but it is tuff to get a street driver vs a street legal car to go that fast. Juice would do it but you need a good engine build and have the knowledge like Charlie to do this. But to go that fast you are looking at transmission stronger rear end and ect. If you're really on a budget, then start with a "Super Six" 2 barrel carb and intake, available in many junkyards and often seen on eBay.

You could also remove the head and mill it down for increased compression, not very expensive at all.

Changing to a higher numerical ratio rear end will give you a "seat of the pants" feel.

Nitrous will shave off some 1/4 time.

As with any car, make sure your braking system and suspension (inc. ball joints, tie-rod ends, bushings, etc) are in good shape BEFORE you spend money on making it go faster.
