Post subject:  No ignition spark

Hi,

I get no spark whatsoever, I just installed the fourth brand new ignition coil in two days and there is no spark. Changed twice the ignition box and the cables but nothing, just don't get a spark. Oh, and forgot to mention that the ballast resistor is brand new too, actually I have changed it also four times in two days, just in case.

What could be the problem?

Thanks.

Ed

Time to start at the beginning. If you have an AC current DVOM, check to see if you are getting at least 1 VAC out of the pick-up. You could have a weak magnet in the pick-up or improper gap between the pick-up and reluctor. If that's good, check continuity between the 2 wires coming from the distributor to the ECU. Colors will be the same (brown and grey as I recall). Check for voltage at the + side of the coil. Should be at least 9 VDC. Then check the output from the ECU to the - side of the coil. If everything looks good at that point, PANIC!

Well, I don't know much about mechanics or the electrical system of a car... so I am pretty much in panic right know with all the technical stuff... anyways, a glimmer of hope is showing because the two wires coming from the distributor to the ECU are peeled and touching each other; could this be the problem?

Thanks,

Ed

Ummmm. Pretty good chance of that. It's a problem for sure, if not THE problem.

That problem shut down every car I ever had it happen to (2 cars and hopefully done counting).

Well, that ended up being THE problem... thanks for pointing that out. My slant now runs pretty cool (so far).

Cheers,
