I stopped and talked to a guy today that has a 74 with a 1bbl slant. Would it be a regular 4 speed or overdrive? The shifter had Hurst on the side of the handle. Looks like a stock knob. No bezel on it. He is a Chebbie guy and might be selling it. He was wanting to put a 360 crate in there. He is having a hard time finding parts. I need to catch up on some bills and snag it if it goes up for sale. He paid $800 for it. Says it runs great! |

For '75 and '76 (not '74) the A-bodies could be had with an overdrive A833 w/Hurst shifter. |

My friend's 77 van has a OD and slant. It doesn't say Hurst on the handle but it is on the mechanism. |

As Dan Said, ma mopar did not put that engine / Tranny combination in the car in 74 - If it came from the Factory with a floor shifter it was / is a 3 speed - Crawl under the car and see how many levers are hanging off the drivers side of the tranny - if there are 3 levers and 3 rods, its an 833 4 speed of some kind - if there are only 2 rods or 2 levers its a 3 speed and your chebby firend dosent know what he is yappin about. Tranny is out. The knob on it looks like the one I have from a OD pickup. I saw a pentastar bezel on the dash board. The bearing retainer is over 5" If I am lucky? I will have this car in my driveway in a week. |
