You have two cup holders. They are indented into the lid of the glove box, and are used for holding your A&W Rootbeer mugs while sitting at the drive-up.

Actually, there is a deeper meaning here. Look what we've become as a society... we now drink, eat, and use cell phones while driving. Our lives move much, much faster now than they did in 1970, and we feel like if we're not doing two or three things at once we're getting behind.

35 years ago we drank our coffee in the (local, independently owned)coffee shop, shooting the bull with old friends and a waitress we knew by first name. Now we fly through the drive-thru, speaking our order to a metal box.

Not sure that all the progress in the last few decades has been good progress.

there still are generic models you can buy in most auto stores, they never fit quite right and slide around when you stomp on the gas or brakes, but they are pretty cheap.

Some of them work okay.....it seems like each auto chain has a slightly different model so you will need to take some measurements and shop around.

Never had a problem in my 360 4 speed Duster.

Maybe I just had a good one.

I agree they are kind of tacky, but if they match the floor color, it works. Better than my thighs would. Besides, now that a medium soda at most places is approaching the 64 oz size, there's no way it would fit between the steering wheel and my gut, and they're too tall to fit under the steering wheel.

I just realized today, when I went off base to get lunch, that I have no cup holders! I got so used to having 'em in my truck, I didn't realize until I got back in the car that I was SOL for setting my drink down! Something must be done to remedy this...

To fix this in the goat, I took a piece of three inch think foam rubber packaging material I dug out of the trash at work and cut a decent sized hole all the way through. Only problem I have is when I pick the drink up, I pick the holder up. It also doesn't slide on the vinyl bench seat.

Although it looks kind of tacky, I've seen cupholders that slide down the window channel that might do the trick.

I detest seeing people driving (or rather, attempting to and failing miserably) with a phone glued to their heads, so I do my best to avoid doing it. I don't like the idea of eating and drinking while driving either, because of spills and dropped fries and whatnot, which brings me to the want of a cupholder, so that I don't have my cup between my legs getting crushed and spilling everything in the event of a "squeeze"

I had something that sat on the tranmission tunnel with a couple of cup holders. Made of plastic, store bought item. I think you can still buy them. Just an idea.

I'd rather have something more custom than a plastic tray. Something made of rich mahogany, inlaid with baby elephant tusk. It would go good with my condor's head gearshift knob.

I have been working on a custom console that fits over the tranny hump (manuals) in a late model a-body..........but it is still a few months out yet, been too busy with the gauge cluster thing. there still are generic models you can buy in most auto stores, they never fit quite right and slide around when you stomp on the gas or brakes, but they are pretty cheap. Some of them work okay.....it seems like each auto chain has a slightly different model so you will need to take some measurements and shop around.

you can get all kinds of holders for the transmission "lump". would rather something tacky than getting castrated by a cup of hot coffee i squeezed with my thighs. Just my preference of course. And as for cell phones, the secret most people don't know is that you pay attention to the driving, not the conversation. Have driven for years with cell phones and as soon as the conversation becomes intense, either end the conversation or park the car. It's called driving with a brain.

Besides, now that a medium soda at most places is approaching the 64 oz size, there's no way it would fit between the steering wheel and my gut, and they're too tall to fit under the steering wheel. my 75 duster never had ANYTHING there! all I had was the rubber boot for the 3 speed, hence my quest to make something for us guys who weren't blessed with one. .........mine also adapts to different size beverages.......... lots of nifty other things I'll post when I get the prototype done. might be awhile though. what would everyone like to see in a console? this might be fun if I can make these like the gauge clusters.
