I can't believe you are running into fuel starvation with a 6-8 psi pump. What ET is the car running?

I installed a Holly blue electric pump in my 229 c.i.hyperpak, but it sounds lile a jackhammer, even audible over my tricked out engine and turbo mufflers. Then i tried a 6 to 8 psi electric pump, but ran into fuel starvation by the 3/4 mark of a standing start quarter mile. Does anyone know of a brand and part number of a good electric pump which will give my 500cfm 4bl enough fuel without making me deaf? Thanks. |

Does it need to be electric? You can make an effective high-volume mechanical pump by swapping a \6 lever arm onto a high-perf big-block bolt-together type pump... |

How much $$ do you want to put in it? www.apeusa.com has walbro high pressure pumps in the $120-140 range and you can get adjustable w/return style regulators from summit for 75-85. This will keep your carb plenty happy and has room for growth even to mpfi with regulator swap. Strap one to your frame rail by the rear axle and you won't hear it over your turbo mufflers. You can put a non-return style regulator on these pumps but it stresses the pump more and may not last as long. |

How about, just reworking the mounting for the Holley "blue" pump. They are not cheap, and you already have it. Fab up a better insulated mount. the one with the pump leaves something to be desired. |

We made a fabricated insulator out of heavy rubber, and even used rubber hose to run the bolts through; we then cut out a piece of the metal pipe to insulate it by putting in a short section of rubber gasoline hose-all to NO avail. The slant six lever and high output mechanical pump sounds promising. Can anyone explain how to do that? |

I've read many stories about the holley blue/red pumps being noisy, you aren't the only one that thinks they are. Where did you buy it from? Read a tale on line where a person was able to return it to jegs for money back for that reason. |

I was running mid to low 15's @96+mph, but after removing the LOUD Holly blue, I ran 15.98 @ 88mph in perfect, cool weather. I KNOW it's running out of fuel in 3rd (final) gear for automatic. Thus, I need a higher output fuelpump, but hopefully one quiet enough that we don't hear it driving 65 mph with no radio. I don't think the race engine builde put the internal drive (?) for me to use a mechanical pump: so it must be an electric pump. Any suggestions on which pump will pump enough fuel, yet not sound like a jackhammer? Thanks to all. |

With that setup, you should be fine with a stock Slant mech pump. I've run low 14s and 96MPH in a heavier car (64 Dart) with a stock pump. Lou |

I like Charlie's idea to insulate the pump as much as possible. some companys have kits to do that (areomotive) if you are not into fabbing it yourself. I have used holley and carter pumps. the carter is much quieter but again do not mount solid . oh ya MSD has cool bushings for mounting electronics too.they should be in Summit or Jegs. |

Put it in something like a battery box, insulate box.I'd also mount it in the box on the opposite side of where the box is mounted to the car. (longer more convulate path for vibration/sound to travel) |

The pump drive is an integral part of the camshaft on a Slant. It has to be there.
