| Post subject: | Piston Rings? |
I went to the machine shop today to look at the head. The machinist suggested that with as much oil that had collected behind the valves, I might have blown rings. Is it possible to replace them without removing the block? Would it be a good idea to do it anyway while the head is off? If so, what replacement rings would you recommend? Thanks for your help. |

Replacing the rings really means rebuilding the bottom end of the motor. You might be better off swapping in a good motor from your slant pile. (...or somebody elses slant pile) |

Unless this is a recently rebuilt engine that might suffered some kind of ring failue which i doubt becaust oil ring is the botem ring it is probaly has worn compression rings. The only thing that will fix that is a engine rebuild. Since cylinders wear like a egg shape after a lot of miles that is why 99.99 percent of the time on a street engine it will have to be bored larger to get it back round.
