I'm going mad. No auto parts or diff. shops in my area can help me. Summit doesn't even list one.
I want to change my rear gears out and need a prepackaged kit with shims crush sleeve and all that other stuff...

Anybody knows who makes one for an 8 1/4" rear axle?!?!?

TIA

Just a shot in the dark, but try the local Mopar dealer or Randy's Ring and Pinion. Randy's ads are in major Mopar mags.

I bought a bunch of stuff at the dealer for an 8.25. Mopar Performance sells a kit of shims etc. It was 2 years ago but I had to get some stuff separate.

The axle bearings and maybe the carrier bearings. I bought everything new including the sure grip (even down to the ring gear bolts!). It was a steal at only $200. Prices have gone up big time at mother Mopar but check the SG in the MP catalogue.

I used a set of 4:30's in that were NOS ( new! try and find that ratio for an 8.25). It went bad (growling, not sure why) after some serious pounding, but I'm going at it again with a set of 3:55's I just got out of a van.

I'll let you know how it goes in a week or so. Might sound insane but I have the 8.25 behind the 340 and the 8.75 is behind my slant!

yep....Randy's got it all.

I put 3.55 and a trak-lok in few months back.

His prices were decent too.

Mopar Performance has one, but like much of their stuff, it is a P.O.S. ! I bought mine at the Nationals last year for $4.50. It included the crush collar, waved washer, and a new nut. Well, the crush collar refused to crush, the nut threads don't quite fit right, and I managed to use the washer. They didn't screw up the washer. I wonder if the nut might have been a metric thread. It almost fit, but after putting it on and taking it off the pinion with a ratchet wrench on clean threads, the nut threads had marks all over them. Like the threads were too close or too far apart. I just reused the old nut, and hammered the old crush collar to expand it a bit. So far so good.

You might also want to try www.manciniracing.com. They sell 8-1/4 ring & pinion installation kits, crush sleeves , etc.

Post subject: Thanks w/*pic* *PIC*

Thanks guys for all your help. I found that Ratech makes a full kit and am inclined to order from them since Summit carries that line for the other Mopar axles. I didn't go to the dealer, the guys behind the parts counter are twits. The mentality of the manager is "Make it hard for the guy and maybe he'll buy a *NEW* car...."

Thanks again, I'm sure I'll have some better questions.
