Post subject:  Guidance for valve adjustment

This weekend I am going to replace my leaking valve cover gasket and thought that I would take a look at the valve adjustment.
I thought that I would ask for any tips or tricks that you may have.
1981 Ram 150 with about 130,000 miles.
I have some knock when going up hill but not burning oil.
I am planning on checking my head bolt torque's while I am in there.
Oh what is the best way for me to keep my carb nuts from backing off?
I have tightened them twice in the last 6 months. Just a random question there.

Thanks,

Loctite should do the trick.

Your 1981 model has hydraulic lifters, so there's no valve adjustment to check! :-)
