I have some questions.. My 63 wagon had an elecrtical problem and now i'm tring to remedy it. I've seen in the articles that the starter relay on a 63 wagon is behind the kick panel. Is this right? I have a small box there, BUT i have on the firewall a newer starter relay currently. (probably part of the electronic ignition conversion?). So before i troubleshoot, If they are BOTH relays will this be a problem and how do i bypass the old kick :shrug: panel one ??

The one and only starter relay on a '63 Valiant is the one on the firewall, more or less directly in front of the driver.

What is the nature of the electrical problem(s) you're having? Do you have the factory service manual, or at the very least a reliable wiring diagram such as the one you can get free of charge here?

Well i had replaced the voltage regulator,ecu, (someone converted to electronic ignition ) and i had ampmeter fluctuations. I repaired the main 12volt feed though the firewall and things were good. 2 weeks later driving hame form work total electrical failure, car dies. I popped the hood and the wire from the starter to the relay had burned up, I mean it vanished, all but the ends.. I attemped to rehook with a 10 guage and it was like an arc welder :shock: . Someone on this forum told me probably a bad starter, but i don't yet know. I turn the key and nothing

OK. Your '63 was not factory-equipped with a fusible link, which is a crude and inexpensive form of main-circuit protection introduced late in 1964. And it certainly does sound as if you had a big overload, the kind that could've destroyed all the engine wiring if your luck hadn't been so good as it evidently was. So, you've got to find out what overloaded and why, fix it, fix the affected wire(s), and add a protective device to the vehicle's main circuit. There are threads on this going on here and here and here .

Still wondering if you have the FSM or acceptable wiring diagram. :?:

only diagram no manual as of yet, I'm good with a multimeter though :? (famous last words)....
